The Loneliness Of Life

A Poem

A family is given unto me,
My name is given unto me,
My gender is given unto me,
Life is given unto me.

Knowledge of the future hides from me.
Knowledge of self also hides from me.
But the mirror confronts me.
It haunts me.

Laid down at night,
The mirror confronts me,
I can’t hide from it,
I can’t avoid it.

My question, my question,
If the mirror isn’t Self,
Then,
Who is Self?

The mirror haunts me,
It presents before me;
My regrets and my failures,
My fears and my responsibilities.

The mirror swallows hope from me.
It magnifies my doubts and my fears.
It reflects back that which is me.
So then, who is Self?

Self hides from me.
Self requires a lifetime commitment to know,
I found the path that leads to Self,
That path is inside me.

The mirror reflects that which is me,
Self tells me who I am.
The mirror reflects that which is me.
Self tells me whom l can become.

The mirror confronts me,
It seeks me.
Self hides from me,
I must seek him.

Self reveals knowledge of the future,
Self brings a star of hope,
Self speaks silently inside me.
His voice is gentle and true.
